Woman dies at Ottawa rave event, Police

A young woman is dead and another in an induced coma as Ottawa Police say they’re investigating severe reactions to pills consumed at rave events in Ottawa.

They say the events took place between Sunday and Tuesday this week – one in central Ottawa, the other in the east end.

In the first case, a 20-year-old from Ottawa was taken to hospital where she remains in an induced coma, suffering from liver problems.

In the second, a 19-year-old from outside the community was taken to hospital and died hours later.

Police said it’s common for people to take drugs during the summer festival season but that death from adverse reactions is rare.

The pills have not been identified, however police say they could possibly be MDMA or ecstasy.

Police warned the public to make educated choices about doing drugs.

Ottawa police were also asking anyone who might have information about the incidents to contact them at 613-236-1222, ext. 5166., or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 or toll-free at 1-800-222-8477.
