Giant Bell supports pick-and-pay TV packages

Bell Canada says it supports so-called ‘pick-and-pay’ options for all television channels not included in basic packages and has proposed a new model to sustain local programming in an era of increasing consumer choice.

Bell supports greater competition among programming services and increased flexibility for all channels to ensure Canadians continue to have access to high quality viewing options. The proposal would depend on a commercial marketplace that enables negotiations between broadcasters and distributors for any channel without carriage rights.

Bell proposes to convert local conventional TV stations into local speciality services, which would continue to be subject to local programming requirements and be carried as part of basic packages. Like other speciality services, local channels would be able to charge wholesale rates to broadcast distributors, subject to existing CRTC must-carry regulations applicable to local broadcasting.

    1. These multi-media companies amuse me.
Their goal is to expand expand expand. They want Phone and TV and Internet. Three businesses, three times the profit , right ?

The average citizen , however, doesn’t have three times the money to hand over. So what really happens is they notice the internet can do the same job as TV and phone (voip, skype , etc ) so they just take internet and cancel the other two.

The only reason these conglamerates even exist is because people work for a living , and they’re too tired to bother with such trivial details like the fact that Bell raised it’s prices , again ! Bell is blocking other movie sites because it jus topenned a site of it’s own , etec etc. They just want to go home and veg out and maybe go to bed early, they’re tired , and they cannot fight the good fight on every front , no matter how worthy the fight may be.

Which is what amuses me about the general public. If you actually did a cost analysis of working for a living , especially a doulbe income no kids compared to a single income family , you’d be shocked by how much the bills went up because there’s no one staying home to hit the grocery store every day or two and decide “I don’t like the prices, I’m not buying anything today , I’ll wait until it goes on sale” .

One stay at home member of the house hold jus tto do that more than makes up for any missing second income. Especially when people do crazy things like demand a second car etc etc…

There’s just no financial case for half the thigns out there, including Bell bundled packages, except the case that you’re too tired to go shopping , you’ll go with whoever’s got the loudest advertising.
