One of Morden’s two publicly displayed mosasaurs has officially secured an entry in next year’s Guinness World Records Book.
The 2016 print book features Bruce, the world’s longest publicly exhibited mosasaur, which is 13 metres long and is on display at the Morden centre.
CFDC Executive Director Peter Cantelon says the achievement caught them a bit off guard.
“It was so staggeringly surprising, because the odds of getting into the book are pretty slim,” he said. “The book carries about 4,000 records and plenty of those were already long held records that people are continually interested in seeing. It’s only a fraction that end up being new records and every year about 65,000 record submissions occur.”
Cantelon said the record was confirmed about a year ago, however not every record will make it into the print copy of the book. He notes they sent a few picture to Guinness just in case and then actually forgot about the whole process. That was until they stumbled upon the Morden record, after the book was released about a month ago.
The CFDC will surely receive a lot of publicity with four million copies of Guinness World Records printed in almost 40 languages.
